Lauren Newton is the daughter of Australian television personalities Bert and Patti Newton. Newton was educated at Genazzano FCJ College, a private girls school in Kew, Victoria. Her brother is actor Matthew Newton.
Newton married swimmer Matt Welsh on 4 November 2006 at St Dominic's Church in Camberwell. They have two children – Sam Albert Newton Welsh (born 19 January 2008) and Eva Eunice Newton Welsh (born 12 May 2009). They are expecting their third child in March 2012.
Newton appeared on Good Morning Australia, the former Channel 10 morning show hosted by her father, Bert Newton. When Good Morning Australia was axed, Newton was released from her contract with Channel 10. She is now working with Channel 9 on various television roles.
Newton was appointed ambassador for the 2005 Girl's Day Out.
